Swirls and haze

Why your paint looks dull.

Look at your car under a bright light or in direct sun and you’ll see fine circles and arcs. Those are swirls: tiny scratches in the clear coat. Thousands of them scatter light, so the paint looks hazy instead of deep. Holograms are buffer trails from a rushed polish. Most of it comes from washing:

  • Automatic car washesSpinning brushes drag grit across the paint.
  • One-bucket washingThe mitt picks up dirt and grinds it back in.
  • Dry wiping and dustingWiping a dusty car is like fine sandpaper.
  • Rough towels and chamoisDragging a dry towel leaves fine arcs.

Correction levels the clear coat, removing a tiny amount so the surface is flat again. That’s why light reflects cleanly afterwards.

Measured, not guessed

We read the paint first.

Every correction starts with paint-depth readings across the car. The gauge tells us how much clear coat each panel has, and spots panels that have been repainted. We only remove what’s needed, and thin or repainted panels get a gentler approach.

  • Readings on every panel before a polisher touches the car
  • Test section first, so we agree the finish with you
  • Checked under inspection lights between stages

What we can fix

  • Swirls and wash marks
  • Haze and dullness, oxidised paint
  • Buffer holograms
  • Light scratches and scuffs in the clear coat
  • Most bird-dropping and water-spot etching

What we can’t

  • Scratches that catch a fingernail (through the clear coat)
  • Stone chips and paint missing to primer
  • Failing or peeling clear coat
  • Panels too thin to polish safely
Pairs with ceramic

Correct first, then protect.

A coating locks in whatever is underneath, so correction is the step that makes a coating look incredible. Here’s how the options stack up.

Correction FAQ

Good questions.

The honest answers, including what polishing can’t do.

No. It removes swirls, haze, holograms and light scratches. Deep scratches that catch a fingernail may need touch-up or respray. We'll tell you what's realistic before we start.

One-Step is a single polishing stage that removes most light swirls and haze and lifts the gloss. Two-Step adds a heavy cut stage first for deeper defects, then refines for maximum clarity.

Every polish removes a tiny amount of clear coat, which is why we take paint-depth readings first and only remove what's needed. Thin or repainted panels get a gentler approach.

The correction itself is permanent until new swirls are put in by washing. Safe washing keeps it that way, and a ceramic coating is the best way to protect it.

Ceramic Plus includes a single-stage correction and Ceramic Elite includes a two-stage correction. Ceramic Essential includes a gloss polish only.

No. The Showroom detail includes a light gloss polish that adds shine, but it isn't a full correction and won't remove most swirls.
